WASHINGTON, D.C. — A few hours after collection with an estimated 250,000 friends on the National Mall for the "Rally restore sanity and/or anxiety," Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert appeared at a press conference at the National Press Club.
The two Comedy Central personalities were obviously pleased with the day event and appreciation for those who have helped make it happen.
"Our currency is not from this city currency," said Stewart."We're not running for anything. We don't have a constituency. we do television programmes for people who like them....And we wanted to do a really good show for people who took the time to come and see us, and I feel that we achieved.
Stewart and Colbert were also really moved by the reaction of the audience. Colbert said that for him, "one of the biggest surprises was the joy of seeing the audience out there, how many people came."And Stewart felt that the crowd "was so delicious in favour of everything that happened."
Although the tone of the press conference was generally light (Colbert mock-Arianna Huffington, who rebuked bussed in 10,000 people from New York to DC, for not driving one of the 200 buses itself), there were also some less-than-humorous moments. When asked about how the media the rally in the next few days, said Stewart investigates possible that he just doesn't care.
"We are proud of ourselves, we are proud of the show we did and the success of it was for us the implementation of the idea and the aim," Stewart said. "You cannot control the reaction of people to it. "
