Despite three new wide releases -- including "Apollo 18," "The Debt", and "Shark Night 3D" -- it was "The Help" that held down the #1 at the weekend box office for the third weekend in a row. The film added another $14.6 million over Labor Day Weekend, taking its domestic total $118.9 million. Source Report: New York Rock The Bells

Rock The Bells is always a special date circled on the calendar. Saturday provided perfect weather for the New York leg of the four date festival tour. The layout of this years Governor's Island festivities featured 3 stages (Main, 36 Chambers, Paid Dues) which gave people plenty of ground to cover. I'll be the first to admit all that walking wiped me out. 


The Paid Dues stage which was located directly left of the fields entrance featured some great performances. Concert goers were given a dose of acts they may have not been able to see live all in one shot. Evidence (Opener), Macklemore, Freddie Gibbs, Big K.R.I.T, Slaughterhouse, and Immortal Technique (Closer) all rocked their respected sets. 


The original ground where the Paid Dues stage was located last year hosted the 36 Chambers stage. RZA played host with the set list featuring, Roc Marciano (Opener) Killah Priest, Masta Killa, GZA, Black Moon, Mobb Deep, Childish Gambino and Raekwon & Ghostface Killah (Closer). The more consistent stage as far as energy was definitely here. Childish Gambino found himself performing in between Mobb Deep and Raekwon & Ghostface Killah, yet didn't yield a bit. 


The Main stage featured some historic names and rightfully so. Hip-Hop veterans like Random Axe, Black Star, Cypress Hill, Erykah Badu, Ms. Lauryn Hill and Nas (Closer) kept the attention throughout the day from the other stages in the distance. Mos Def and Talib Kweli turned in a great early performance for the crowd. Nothing was stopping everyone from checking out Nas as he performed his 5 Mic rated Illmatic with DJ Premier on the 1's and 2's. 


Besides the distance between stages, two names who many were looking forward to, MF Doom and Common were not in attendance. Common was not booked for the New York leg and MF Doom dropped out of the tour despite being listed on the Paid Dues lineup. Ending much earlier then expected the festival was highlighted by performances of historic albums like Nas’ Illmatic, Lauryn Hill’s Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu’s Baduizm, Mobb Deep’s Infamous; Cypress Hill’s Black Sunday Black Star's self titled album Raekwon’s Only Built for Cuban Linx. Those albums and more provided doses of Hip-Hop celebrated by two different generations of Hip-Hop. 


All in all a great day for Hip-Hop, no cell phone service, $4 cans of Pepsi and great weather. Until next year, check out our slide show featuring the lens of Michael Knapp. More coverage coming this week.

This weekend at the Electric Zoo Electronic Music Festival, The Source sat down with DJ David Guetta backstage. We featured him in our Chris Brown Issue last month and now we have a video segment for you. DJ David Guetta is one of the most famous DJ's in the world and has been a pioneer in bringing hip-hop and electronic music together. His new album, "Nothing But the Beat," hits stores this week and the double-album features collaborations with Lil Wayne, Usher, Chris Brown, Timbaland, Jennifer Hudson, Akon, will.i.am, Flo Rida, Nicki Manaj, Taio Cruz, Ludacris and more! Guetta told us he was honored to be featured in The Source and he even gave us an exclusive sneak peek into the concept behind his latest music video with Usher. The track is called "Without You." Guetta also says that he loved working with Nicki Manaj and is really proud of what she did vocally on the track "Turn Me On." Check out the interview below!
