Cory Gunz] Thursday, January 27 Ducktails Raises Money to Release Panda Bear-Assisted "Killin' the Vibe" 12" Single Tweet Ducktails Raises Money to Release Panda Bear-Assisted

Ducktails is the lo-fi bedroom-pop solo project of Real Estate guitarist Matthew Mondanile, and his new album Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics is out now. The iTunes and vinyl versions of the album feature a version of the track "Killin' the Vibe" that features vocals from Animal Collective's Panda Bear, as well as contributions from Dent May and Woods' Jarvis Taveniere. You can hear that version of the song over here.

And now, as Chocolate Bobka points out, Mondanile's hoping to release the song as a single, but he's going to need help to do so.

In his effort to self-release the "Killin' the Vibe" 12", Mondanile is using the fundraising website Kickstarter to raise $3,500. (Full disclosure: Pitchfork publisher Chris Kaskie is an investor in Kickstarter.) On the page for his Kickstarter campaign, Mondanile writes that the proposed EP will include four songs: the Panda-assisted version of "Killin' the Vibe", a live version of the same song with the British band Spectrals, and two new Ducktails songs, "Sit Around With Ya" and "Couch Surfer". He's hoping to press up 500 to 1,000 copies of the EP.

For those that pledge, Mondanile offers goodies ranging from a 30-minute cassette of unreleased songs to a private live show as far away as Europe. Head over to the Kickstarter page to find all the details, and check below to see the Kickstarter video that Mondanile has made.

"It's sort of disappointing that it doesn't seem like a realistic possibility that any new music would be made. At this point, Stephen [Malkmus] does not write songs for Pavement anymore, or songs in the Pavement mindset. I think he considers that part of his juvenilia, which is his own prerogative."

-- Pavement percussionist, mascot, and quote-machine Bob Nastanovich, who seems to want another Pavement album just as badly as everyone else. (via Spin)

Video: Lykke Li: "I Follow Rivers" Tweet Video: Lykke Li:

In Lykke Li's new video for "I Follow Rivers", the Swedish singer, rocking a black veil, chases a man across a wintry beach. When she catches up to him, it becomes tough to tell why he was so eager to get away. The enigmatic clip, from director Tarik Saleh, is a patient and gorgeously shot piece of work, and Lykke Li has been getting awfully good at making cryptic facial expressions lately. You can watch the video at the Dazed and Confused website (via Some Kind of Awesome).

Lykke Li's new album Wounded Rhymes is due March 1 from her own LL Recordings.

Cass McCombs: "County Line":

Catacombs, the last album from open-hearted singer-songwriter Cass McCombs, was one of our favorites of 2009. And on April 12 in the U.S. and April 11 in the UK, Domino releases WIT'S END, his new one. McCombs recorded the album in cities around the U.S., co-producing it alongside his Catacombs collaborator, Foreign Born's Ariel Rechtshaid. Above, you can stream the album's opener, the organ-drenched "County Line", and we've got the tracklist below.

McCombs and his band will be in Austin in March for SXSW, and they'll tour the U.S. this summer.

WIT'S END:

01 County Line
02 The Lonely Doll
03 Buried Alive
04 Saturday Song
05 Memory's Stain
06 Hermit's Cave
07 Pleasant Shadow Song
08 A Knock Upon the Door

A little horror with your noise pop, perhaps?

Tweet Video: Sleigh Bells:

The video for Sleigh Bells' Treats standout "Rill Rill", directed by Jon Watts, just debuted on MTV, and it's suitably cool and creepy. Blood pours from telephones, switchblades are used as accessories for yearbook photos, and Derek Miller gets pushed out of a moving car. Fun for the whole family! Watch it below.

The video for No Age's "Fever Dreaming", a highlight from last year's BNM'd Everything in Between, takes place entirely within the course of one shot-- a pretty cool trick, but not even the coolest thing about it. In the awesome-looking clip, which was helmed by video auteur Patrick Daughters, Dean Spunt and Randy Randall take a load off, eat some food, and play air guitar (and drums) in a homey little space while everything in the room seems to be closing in on them. We don't want to ruin the surprise, but let's just say this doesn't end too well for the band. Check out the video below.

dBpm Records will handle band's future releases

Tweet Wilco Start Their Own Label

Back in July of last year, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline revealed that the band had left Nonesuch Records and was starting their own label. Today, the band made good on that revelation and announced their new label, dBpm Records.

According to a press release, dBpm Records will put out all future Wilco releases "and more," and will be run by the band's manager, Tony Margherita, out of offices in Easthampton, Massachusetts. ANTI- Records will distribute the label, as well as other services. The band are currently working on their next album at their Chicago studio, the Loft.

"This is an idea we've discussed for years," bandleader Jeff Tweedy said in a statement. “We really like doing things ourselves, so having our own label feels pretty natural to me. And, to be working with ANTI- a label that has its roots in a label that was started by a punk rock guy to sell his own records seems like a perfect fit for us."

In addition, they have a short May tour lined up; check out those dates below, as well as dates for solo Tweedy shows. And Wilco's Solid Sound Festival will return to the Mass MoCA in N. Adams, Massachusetts June 24-26.

Wilco:

05-02 Montgomery, AL - Montgomery PAC
05-03 Mobile, AL - Saenger Theatre
05-05 New Orleans, LA - Jazzfest
05-06 Houston, TX - Verizon Wireless Theater
05-07 Denton, TX - University of N. TX Auditorium
05-08 Tulsa, OK - Cain's Ballroom

Jeff Tweedy:

03-22 Toronto, Ontario - Queen Elizabeth Theatre
03-25 Montreal, Quebec - L'Olympia de Montréal
03-26 Portland, ME - State Theatre
03-28 Madison, WI - Capitol Theater
03-29 Rochester, MN - Mayo Civic Center Presentation Hall
03-30 Iowa City, IA - The Englert Theatre

MP3: Datarock: "Catcher in the Rye"

-- Norwegian party-starters Datarock are calling their "Catcher in the Rye" "the most extravagant single in history." The self-released single, due March 21, is packaged in a designer toy (pictured above) with a USB stick that features 110 bonus tracks (including the band's two previously released albums, a rarities compilation, and their new album and EP), 1500 photos, 20 music videos, and a 60-minute concert documentary. It'll also be available as a digital five-track EP. But if all you're looking for is the song itself, you can download it above.

-- In the Baseball Project, members of R.E.M. and the Minus 5 play songs about America's national pastime. The band's new album Volume 2: High and Inside arrives March 1 from Yep Roc. It features appearances from Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, Yo La Tengo's Ira Kaplan, the Decemberists' Chris Funk and John Moen, and the Hold Steady's Craig Finn, the latter of whom belts out the Minnesota Twins anthem "Don't Call Them Twinkies".

-- On March 15 in the U.S. and March 7 in the UK, Island Def Jam will release Last Night on Earth, the new album from London folkies Noah and the Whale. Here We Go Magic's Jen Turner guests.

-- The Morgan Hotel Group has teamed up with IAMSOUND Records for a live music series. The series started last year at L.A.'s Mondrian Hotel and continues this year at the Mondrian and the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. In the next few months, the lineup of acts performing at the hotels will include Lykke Li, Ted Leo, Dum Dum Girls, Zola Jesus, Cass McCombs, Twin Sister, Fool's Gold, and Gonzales.

Patrick Wolf Names Album, Drops Video Tweet Patrick Wolf Names Album, Drops Video

In May, British pop chameleon Patrick Wolf will release Lupercalia, his follow-up to 2009's The Bachelor, on new label Hideout Recordings. Wikipedia tells us that the title refers to "a very ancient, possibly pre-Roman pastoral festival," in which noble youths would run naked through cities. Sounds like fun! He's already released one single from the album: "Time of My Life", which you can hear here. And on March 14, he'll release another, the horn-laced soul-pop lark "The City". The new song has a video, and you can watch it below.

Given his glam/goth past, his pasty skin, and his preference for capes, Wolf is not exactly the first person you'd expect to find at a beach party. But in the video for "The City", Wolf and friends take over the Santa Monica seaside, and the resulting images could pass for an early-90s jeans commercial. Kinga Burza directed the video, which debuted on The Guardian's website yesterday. Check it out below.

In the months ahead, Wolf will play shows around Europe, including a few opening for Patti Smith. Check out those dates over here.
